Narrator: East Timor: Birth of a Nation: Lu Olo’s Story (2002)

East Timor, Birth of a Nation is the story of a country rising from the ashes of a violent past. The people of the world’s youngest nation are now rebuilding their lives, reconciling past injustice and staking a claim on the future.

Francisco “Lu Olo” Guterres, was a commander in East Timor’s guerrilla army and spent 24 years fighting Indonesian rule. When the Indonesians withdrew in November 1999, Lu Olo left his mountain camp and began the difficult transition from soldier to politician.

 

Voice Role: Ponyo (2008)

Cate Blanchett voices the role of Gran Mamare in the English version of Ponyo.

Ponyo is an animated adventure centered on a 5-year-old boy and his relationship with a goldfish princess who longs to become human. Directed and wrote by Hayao Miyazaki, the film also features voice appearances by Matt Damon and Liam Neeson in the English version.

This is an excerpt from a new ‘lecture’ work, ‘Another Lecture’ where actress Cate Blanchett becomes architect, narrating a slide show of ‘supposed’ architectural projects her office has undertaken. Humourist and ironic, the images are of non-architecture, urban fracture and decay found in Coley’s native Glasgow and field trips through Melbourne.

 

Narrator: A Cautionary Tail (2012)


A Cautionary Tail is an Australian animated short film starring Cate Blanchett, David Wenham and Barry Otto, and featuring an original score by award-winning composer Michael Yezerski. A dark, funny fable for children and adults alike, the story is told using a striking collage of 3D animated characters and hand-made miniature sets. It is due for release in June 2012.

The short is about a little girl is born with a tail that expresses her emotions. As a child, her parents celebrate their daughter’s eloquent, athletic appendage, and her tail inspires magical make-believe adventures with her friends. As she grows up, however, the young woman faces pressure to fit in, and must choose between conformity and self-expression.

Cate Blanchett reprise her role as Galadriel in a short cameo at the beginning of the film.

The dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim Erebor, their homeland, from Smaug. Bilbo Baggins is in possession of a mysterious and magical ring.

Cate Blanchett is Valka, Hiccup’s long lost mother, the Dragon Rider.

When Hiccup and Toothless discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.

 

Voice Role: The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came to Eden (2014)

Cate Blanchett voices Dore Strauch, in a fascinating documentary portrait of a 1930s murder mystery. Fleeing conventional society, a Berlin doctor and his mistress (Strauch) start a new life on uninhabited Floreana Island. But after the international press sensationalizes the exploits of the Galapagos’ “Adam and Eve”, others flock there. Clashing personalities are aggravated by the island community’s lusty free-love ethos, and when some of the islanders disappear, suspicions of murder hang in the air leaving an unsolved mystery which remains the subject of local lore today.
