Attention, Hobbit fans.
The trailer for director Peter Jackson’s upcoming film based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic fantasy novels will make its worldwide premiere on Tuesday, the studio announced today.
A 15-minute satellite feed of the trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will stream at 10 p.m. ET/PT on the night of Dec. 20 and again the following day at 9 a.m. ET/PT.
Jackson is bringing back most of his cast from the hit trilogy franchise, The Lord of the Rings, including Ian McKellan as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo, Andy Serkis as Gollum, Orlando Bloom as Legolas and Cate Blanchett as Galadriel. Martin Freeman, from the British version of Ricky Gervais’ The Office, has come onboard in the title role of Bilbo Baggins.
The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.
Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.
Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.
New Zealand will be the site of the world premiere for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” in November, 2012.
Producer/director Peter Jackson and Prime Minister John Key made the announcement Friday at the Hobbiton set in Waikato. The city of Wellington served as the host of the world premiere of the “The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King” in December, 2003.
“I think Warner Bros in particular were blown away by the ‘Return of the King‘ premiere,” Jackson said at the news conference. “No one in the international industry could quite believe how the country got behind that.”
Warner Bros. has set Dec. 14, 2012 for the release of the first of the two “Hobbit” pics.
Cate Blanchett is known for her unbelievable acting range. A born stage performer, the Aussie star made the transition to the big screen with complete and total ease, nabbing an Oscar for The Aviator and nominations for Elizabeth, Notes on a Scandal, and I’m Not There. But around these parts, she’s mostly recognized for her acute fashion sense (her lavender Givenchy couture gown blew away the competition at this year’s Oscars) and an insane porcelain complexion that belies her 42 years. The latter feat is thanks in large part to SK-II, for which she serves as global brand ambassador. This year marks the actress and the Japanese brand’s 10th anniversary of making clear, perfect skin together, and to mark the occasion, Blanchett took a few moments out of her busy touring schedule (she’s currently starring in the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya) to talk theater vs. film makeup, heading back into the Shire, and how a certain Facial Treatment Essence gives her face that extra bit of je ne sais quoi.
Here is some lovely on the set photos from the first The Hobbit film! You can also view a on the set video posted by Peter Jackson on FaceBook, and you will see Cate in it You can also view it in our video archive!
Just to keep you on track on what’s going on in the casting for The Hobbit!
Apparently will Evangeline Lilly, mostly known for the TV Series Lost be in the film/s.
Also has the lovely actor Barry Humphries joined to star in both the films. He’s most recognized for his alter ego, Dame Edna, his part in Immortal Beloved and a lot of theatre work!
I probably already told you this but looks like Liv Tyler won’t be in the films at all.
And last but not least, the movies names will be The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) and The Hobbit: There and Back Again (2013).
