Babel

Babel, the Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s award winning movie, revolves around three stories set in Morocco, Tunisia, Mexico and Japan, and weaves together stories about people whose lives are changed by a shared crisis. The story begins with two Moroccan kids who decide to test their rifle when herding sheep. They shoot at a distant tour bus to see how far the bullet goes. The bullet travels far and hits Susan (Cate), who is on vacation with her husband Richard. The story also covers several people that were related to the gun that caused the shot.

You can find in the gallery a sort of pictures from this movie, including posters, trailer captures, movie captures and stills. Enjoy!

Exclusive Sneak Peek: “I’m Not There”

Sometimes, life is good: Last night Rolling Stone got an exclusive screening of the new Todd Haynes film I’m Not There in which six actors portray Bob Dylan. We’re pretty much sworn to secrecy, but can’t resist giving you a few highlights:

• Cate Blanchett as Dylan, meeting Brian Jones at a party and calling the Rolling Stones a “groovy covers band,” then screaming “play your old stuff” at a statue of Jesus Christ alongside David Cross as Allen Ginsberg.

• Christian Bale as the late-’70s born-again Dylan, sermonizing about Christ and delivering the hidden Dylan gospel classic “Pressing On,” from Saved, sung by John Doe.

• My Morning Jacket’s Jim James’ heartbreaking rendition of the basement tapes chestnut “Goin’ to Acapulco” in full Rolling Thunder Review white face.

• Sonic Youth’s brilliant version of the unreleased Dylan classic “I’m Not There” from the basement tapes session that plays during the closing credits.

Blanchett campaigns for climate change awareness

Hollywood star Cate Blanchett was in Brisbane today – not to promote a movie, but to encourage Queenslanders to become aware of the issues around climate change.

Blanchett visited the drought-ravaged Lake Samsonvale, north of Brisbane.

There she launched the Australian Conservation Foundation’s new online campaign, whoonearthcares.com.

She says the campaign is about bringing people from all over the country together to work on climate change solutions.

“I think that the majority of Australians are beginning to realise that we can’t hope to address the very real issues of water shortages and drought unless we significantly reduce Australia’s spiralling greenhouse emissions,” she said.

“Climate change is an issue that affects each and every one of us, and therefore it’s up to each and every one of us to act responsibly and do something about it.

    Cate expectations

MUCH has been written about revered Australian actress Cate Blanchett, but chances are you didn’t know she enjoys dancing around the house listening to The Clash and Nick Cave.

That’s the appealing thing about Blanchett: even with constant media scrutiny, she manages to keep a fairly low profile and seems refreshingly normal for someone so talented and alarmingly beautiful.

She eschews an entourage and is most content when surrounded by the men in her life: writer husband Andrew Upton and sons, Dashiel, five, and Roman, three.

“I am a very private person and I’m not interested in the whole celebrity thing,” she tells Insider at the Sydney Theatre Company, where she and Upton will become co-artistic directors next year.

Old flame returns to Indiana Jones franchise

The producers of the new Indiana Jones film have confirmed that the leading lady of the first film in the franchise is returning to the series.

Karen Allen, who played Harrison Ford’s love interest in Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark is to reprise her role as feisty adventurer Marion Ravenwood in the unnamed Indiana Jones IV, due for a May 2008 release.

The news was announced by Lucasfilm/Paramount at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Blanchett gets it off for new film

Cate Blanchett disrobes in Elizabeth: The Golden Age, her sequel to Elizabeth, to the point at which critics are buzzing about her unexpected nude scene.

British writers, treated to a sneak peek of footage from the film, have revealed Blanchett gets her gear off in the regal role, showing off a lithe body underneath the Elizabethan robes.

“There’s even a nude Elizabeth – not full frontal, but shorn of all clothing – and she makes for one sexy monarch,” British show-biz writer Baz Bamigboye says.

“Cate Blanchett told me, in her understated Aussie way, how she enjoyed revisiting a slightly older Queen Elizabeth I in Elizabeth: The Golden Age. But she neglected to tell me that she would be naked,” he says.

    Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan

Celebrated director Todd Haynes has taken on a rather … experimental project this time around. He’ll have seven different actors playing different “aspects” of songwriter Bob Dylan. And one of those actors is Cate Blanchett.

Click below (in view more) to enjoy the clip from Haynes’ upcoming I’m Not There, which The Weinsteins aim to release on September 21st. Hard to say what the old-school Dylan fans will have to say about this clip, but I find it tough to knock anything Cate Blanchett does these days.

Haynes is best-known for 2002’s Far From Heaven. Some of the other actors hired to play “aspects” of Dylan in I’m Not There include Christian Bale, Richard Gere, and Heath Ledger. And check out David Cross as Allan Ginsberg!
